A Master Plan for the 352 acre Morgan Creek Park was completed in 2015. This plan provides opportunities to modernize park amenities in response to community input and the recent Highway 100 completion with an expected increase in residential growth. The new park development is occuring on the south side to complement the current campground, arboretum, trails and natural area.

  • State of the art playground never before experienced in this area
  • New walking paths along with the paved Morgan Creek Trail
  • New picnic shelters and flushable restrooms
  • Reservable open-aired shelter that can accommodate over 125 people
  • Development of the Morgan Creek trail within the park boundaries is now complete. The trail extends along E Ave in Cedar Rapids to Cherry Hill Park, connecting to the city's Cherokee Trail. A proposed trail extension north of the park would eventually lead along Highway 100 across the Cedar River to the trail route on 42nd street.

Phase 1 natural resource enhancements has included wetlands and bio-swales; development of native prairie habitat; and a storm water management system to benefit the park and nearby private development.  Additional park redevelopment phases are planned within the next 5-15 years. These plans include an event lodge, continued trail connections, arboretum expansion, campground expansion, stream and natural resource enhancements and so much more for the betterment of the community!
