Secondary Road Department

The Linn County Secondary Road Department maintains 1,156 miles of roads and 256 bridges. Approximately 378 miles (33%) of the road system is hard surfaced (asphalt, concrete or seal coat) and the remaining is rock surfaced. The secondary road system is served by construction, maintenance, and roadside crews who work to provide the best experience for all users.

Public Outreach Survey

Take the Public Outreach Survey and help the Linn County Secondary Road Department apply for federal grants!

This survey is intended to get the public's opinion regarding Linn County's rural roads to help guide the department on future safety improvements. The results of this survey will guide the Linn County Secondary Road Department when applying for federal safety funding. Using public input could make the County more successful when applying for grants. The survey closes on March 1, 2024.

Local Option Sales Tax

Since 2010, the Linn County Secondary Road Department has received more than $36 million in local option sales tax revenue. These funds have accelerated Linn County’s 5-year construction program by paving 106 miles of roads (30% of the paved system), three bridge projects, and three culvert replacement projects. The majority (94 miles) of the paving projects were concrete overlays.
