The Matsell Bridge Shooting Range, located at 200 Range Lane (formerly 3716 Matsell Park Rd) Central City, Iowa features a 200, 100, and the pistol only 50 and 15-yard ranges. The 50-yard range was developed in partnership with the Linn County Sheriff's Department, Marion Police Department and Linn County Pistol Club. The 50-yard range is occasionally reserved for law enforcement training or Pistol Club public shoots.  The area is part of the Matsell Bridge Natural Area

Shooting Range Permits

A Matsell Bridge Shooting Range permit is required to use the range. Ranges and shooting stations are available on a first come-first serve basis. 

Daily shooting range permits are available for purchase at an on-site kiosk for $10.

Annual shooting range permits for the calendar year are available for purchase online for $40.  Once registration has been submitted, you will receive a confirmation email. This email is your permit. You must print and have this email on you while shooting at the range.

The shooting range is closed January and February, then reopens when weather conditions allow, typically mid-March. 

The shooting range opens at 8 a.m. daily, closing times vary with the season:

  • 6:00 p.m. - March (when conditions allow for opening) until daylight savings time begins 
  • 7:30 p.m. - Daylight savings time start through September 15
  • 6:00 p.m. - September 16 until daylights savings time ends.
  • 4:30 p.m. - Daylight savings time end through December 31.

50 Yard Shooting Range availability

The 50-yard range may be closed periodically for law enforcement training. The 15-yard, 100-yard, and 200-yard ranges will still be open for public use on a first come, first serve basis.
