Grow Solar Linn + Johnson Counties is an education and group-purchasing program for residential and other small-scale solar. Homeowners, business owners, and farm owners throughout Linn and Johnson Counties may participate in this program to pool their buying power and secure significant discounts that make installing solar more affordable for their homes or properties.
The program is offered by the Midwest Renewable Energy Association with the support of the City of Cedar Rapids, Linn County, City of Iowa City, Johnson County, The Nature Conservancy-Iowa, Green Iowa AmeriCorps, Linn Clean Energy District, Johnson County Energy District, and Johnson County Conservation.
Solar group buys are a tool for scaling solar deployment in a short period of time (June through September) and moving communities toward their sustainability goals. They work by:
Aggregating demand for solar, which lowers solar prices for home and business owners.
Providing up-front customer education, which lowers installer soft costs and leads to a higher-than-average conversion rate for solar leads.
