Urban County Coalition
Purpose
The Urban County Coalition is a partnership among Linn, Black Hawk, Dubuque, Johnson, and Scott counties organized to jointly develop, communicate, and advocate for issues of mutual interest.
The state legislature, the state executive branch, and various state agencies continually develop and implement regulations that can and do significantly impact the delivery of county services.
By acting collectively, member counties present a stronger, more unified voice on issues that directly affect our residents.
Structure
Each county annually appoints members of its Board of Supervisors to serve on the Urban County Coalition Steering Committee for the purpose of planning strategies and making recommendations to their respective Board of Supervisors. Each county also designates a staff member to assist with the facilitation of the coalition.
Linn County serves as the lead agency for the purpose of providing a legal entity for entering into contracts or agreements on behalf of the coalition and serves as the fiscal agent for the coalition.
Funding
Each member county contributes $22,500 per year for membership in the Urban County Coalition. The funding is used for consulting, advisory, and advocacy services for issues identified by coalition members as important to residents.
The Linn County Board of Supervisors strives to provide efficient and responsive government that improves quality of life. Building partnerships helps Linn County achieve the desired outcomes stated in its strategic plan (PDF).
