Processing Delays

Due to COVID-19 and associated mail delays, processing times for passports are delayed. Please check with Passport Services at 1-888-874-7793 for processing times. 

Routine service turn around is approximately 10-13 weeks from the day an application is submitted to the day a new passport is received. Processing times begin the day Passport Services receives the application at the acceptance facility. Mail times vary across the country. Delays are possible. Please plan ahead.

Passports can be expedited for an additional $60 fee. Processing time for expedited passport processing approximately 7-9 weeks.

Renew By Mail

Adults with 10-year passports can renew them by mail instead of appearing in person. 

Applying

The Linn County Recorder's Office is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday excluding holidays. To ensure same day services, please arrive by 4:30 p.m.

The United States Postal Service is still taking passport applications by appointment only. For more information, scheduling, and hours of operation please visit the USPS website.

The following items are required when applying for a passport. Please bring the following items with you:

  • One color passport photo- a photo can be taken at the Recorder’s Office for a fee of $15 
  • A certified copy of your birth record (hospital certificates are not accepted).
  • A photo ID 
  • Completed application (do not sign)
  • Check or Money Order

All applicants must appear in person. Applications must be signed in the presence of a passport acceptance agent.

Minor Children

Both parents are required to appear with a minor under age 16 or a notarized affidavit from absentee parent is required explaining why they are unable to appear, and a copy of their driver’s license - front and back. 

Payments

*Two payments are collected at the time of passport execution. 

The Linn County Recorder charges a $35 passport execution fee that can be made payable by check, money order, cash, or credit card.

The remaining amount is for the passport application portion going to Passport Services. This portion must be made payable to the US Department of State and must be made in the form of check or money order.
