A second public meeting to discuss mitigation options for the Buffalo Creek Park dam at Coggon, Iowa has been scheduled for August 26th at 6:30pm. The meeting will be held in the American Legion Hall in Coggon, Iowa at 20 First Street North, Coggon, Iowa 52218. There will be a formal presentation by Riverwise Engineering and Shive-Hattery Inc. with three options for mitigation. Linn County Conservation will be pursuing one of the three options presented at the meeting.
Linn County Conservation received a wide range of feedback following the first public meeting in June. Director Dan Biechler says the three options presented at this upcoming meeting each address the safety concern, ensure fish and mussel passage, and address public recreational needs. Biechler says that the time is now to move forward on this project, as funding opportunities are available and the dam is nearing its projected structural lifespan. Partners for this project include the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, and the Upper Buffalo Creek Watershed Project.
