[ARCHIVED] How Do I Receive My Specialty Plates?

We are currently not open to the public.  You may choose to wait until we reopen or if you would like to receive your plates, please send an email to [email protected] confirming the following:

  • Please provide which vehicle will receive the special plate (VIN or current plate#).
  • Please provide the address where you would like the plate mailed and ensure the mailing address is accurate. The Linn County Treasurer will cover the expense to mail the new plates to you.
  • During the mailing process, the State of Iowa Motor Vehicle system will not match the plates on your vehicle.  It is recommended you do not drive that vehicle until the new plates and registration are received.  Doing so is a risk you take with enforcement and by requesting the Treasurer to mail the plates, you acknowledge this risk and agree to hold harmless the Linn County Treasurer from any consequences of such action.
  • Your vehicle registration must be current. If it is expired, we will require payment in order to attach the special plate.
  • Your current plates must be returned to our office in a timely manner. Please attach the “COVID – Replaced with special plates” label that comes with your new plates to your old plates and drop them in our drop box in front of the building or mail them to us at your expense.
  • Our office is located at: The Jean Oxley Public Service Center 935 2nd St SW in Cedar Rapids.
  • At this time our lobby is closed through June 15, 2020 and is subject to change.
