Due to COVID-19, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has extended the deadline to get a REAL ID (gold star) on your driver’s license to Oct. 1, 2021. If you fly commercially you will either need a REAL ID license or ID or another acceptable identity document, or you will be subject to additional screening and potential delay.
What documents do I need to get a Real ID?
REAL IDs are issued by the Department of Transportation. However, you will need documentation to prove your identity. The Iowa Department of Transportation can help you identify which documents you will need to obtain a REAL ID.
The Linn County Recorder’s Office can help you obtain certified copies of your birth certificate and/or marriage certificate, if needed.
