[ARCHIVED] Linn County Seeks To Fill Planning & Zoning Commission and Board of Adjustment Openings

Default Logo - Newsflash

The Linn County Board of Supervisors is accepting applications to fill three voluntary appointments on the Planning & Zoning Commission and two voluntary appointments on the Board of Adjustment. These openings are due to a recently enacted change in state law that requires all members reside in the unincorporated area of the county.

Planning & Zoning Commission

The Linn County Planning & Zoning Commission reviews and makes recommendations on proposed development applications for the unincorporated area of the county. Types of cases include proposals to rezone from one zoning district to another; proposals to subdivide land for development; and conditional use permit applications. The Commission also makes recommendations on amendments to the zoning and other land development regulations, and on the Linn County Comprehensive Plan. The Commission typically meets on the third Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Linn County Public Service Center in Cedar Rapids.

Board of Adjustment

The Board of Adjustment (BOA) hears and decides on appeals for Variances and Special Exceptions for proposed improvements which do not meet Linn County Zoning regulations. The BOA also hears and decides on Conditional Use Permits and on appeals of the Zoning Administrator’s decision where an error of law is alleged in the decision. The Board typically meets the last Wednesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at the Linn County Public Service Center in Cedar Rapids.

Applicants for these openings must be eligible electors and reside outside of city limits in rural, unincorporated Linn County. Applications may be submitted online through the Linn County website at www.linncounty.org or an application can be mailed to an applicant upon request. For more information, contact the Linn County Planning & Development Department at 319-892-5130.
