Default Logo - Newsflash

Linn County will begin a phased approach to reopening County facilities on July 20 with modifications in place to keep employees and customers safe. Modifications will include conducting business by appointment only at most County facilities.

Despite the current closure of most County buildings, County staff is still working on-site and remotely to help ensure minimal disruption to public services during this time. Services remain available via phone, email, and online. Contact information for all County departments is available at LinnCounty.org

A drop-box is available in the parking lot of the Public Service Center (935 2nd St. SW) for anyone who needs to drop off payments, vehicle registration renewals, or other paperwork that would normally be dropped off in person.

Current closures include these County buildings:

  • Jean Oxley Linn County Public Service Center (935 2nd St. SW)
  • Community Services Building (1240 26th Ave. Court SW)
  • Dr. Percy and Lileah Harris Building – with the exception of the Child Development Center as the Iowa Department of Human services is not recommending closure of childcare facilities at this time (1020 6th St. SE)
  • Juvenile Detention and Diversion Services (800 Walford Rd. SW)
  • Secondary Road Department (1888 County Home Rd.)
  • Wickiup Hill Learning Center (10260 Morris Hills Rd.)
  • Linn County Sheriff’s Office; the Civil Division will continue to serve legal processes and the Patrol Division will continue to respond to emergency and routine calls for service. (310 2nd Ave. SW)
  • LIFTS – office is closed to the public; however, routes are still running for essential needs. Fares are waived and the number of riders will be limited during each route. (5815 4th St. SW)

Exceptions:

  • The Linn County Child Development Center remains open as the Iowa Department of Human services is not recommending closure of childcare facilities at this time.
  • Linn County Courthouse – normal operating hours; however, restrictions are in place that limit entry to the courthouse (PDF) (51 3rd Ave. Bridge)
  • Juvenile Justice Center (Juvenile Courthouse) – normal operating hours (211 8th Ave SW)

Linn County officials urge all residents to do their part to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 by staying home when you are ill, maintaining a physical distance of 6 feet between yourself and others, and washing hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Doing so will help to reduce the spread of the coronavirus and protect those most vulnerable in our community.
