On Monday, July 20, 2020, most Linn County offices reopened on an appointment-only basis as part of a phased approach to reopening with modifications to keep employees and customers safe. Linn County’s top priority remains the safety of employees and the public. The County will continue to evaluate operations and adjust services and safety measures as needed.

Anyone entering County buildings will be required to wear a face covering and social distance. COVID-19 symptom screening is also in place.

The following County buildings are open by appointment only:

  • Jean Oxley Linn County Public Service Center, 935 2nd St. SW, Cedar Rapids
  • Linn County Community Services Building, 1240 26th Ave. Court SW, Cedar Rapids
  • Dr. Percy and Lileah Harris Building, 1020 6th St. SE, Cedar Rapids
  • Secondary Road Department, 1888 County Home Rd., Marion

All Linn County departments continue to conduct business during normal business hours via telephone, email, and our website. 

Conduct Business Remotely

Many County services can be conducted online or remotely through email, mail, our drop boxes, or over the phone. Linn County encourages conducting business with the County remotely whenever possible. The most frequently accessed services include:

Linn County is doing its part to keep our community and employees safe by following these protocols:

  • Requiring appointments in County facilities to limit the number of people in each building at one time
  • Requiring all visitors to County buildings to wear face coverings and undergo a COVID-19 symptom screening. Linn County will make disposable face coverings available for the public at each County building.
  • Placing security guards at the Public Service Center and Harris Building to oversee the appointment entrance process and perform COVID-19 screening of all building visitors
  • Sanitizing high-touch areas throughout the day, such as handrails, elevator buttons, door handles, and counters
  • Requiring all County employees to perform daily self-temperature and COVID-19 symptom checks before reporting to their work area
  • Requiring all County employees to wear face coverings while working with the public, when in public areas of the building, and when six feet of distance cannot be maintained
  • Installation of protective plexiglass shields at public service counters
  • Signage reminding everyone to practice social distancing and other prevention measures to help stop the spread of the coronavirus
  • Installation of vinyl floor decals to designate six-foot marks in waiting areas to promote social distancing
  • Making hand sanitizer available in all County buildings
  • Conducting meetings electronically when possible to reduce gatherings
