On Monday, July 20, 2020, Linn County offices will reopen on an appointment-only basis as part of a phased approach to reopening with modifications to keep employees and customers safe. Linn County’s top priority remains the safety of employees and the public. The County will continue to evaluate operations and adjust services and safety measures as needed.
Anyone entering County buildings will be required to wear a face covering and social distance. COVID-19 symptom screening will also be in place.
The following County buildings will reopen July 20 by appointment only:
- Jean Oxley Linn County Public Service Center, 935 2nd St. SW, Cedar Rapids
- Linn County Community Services Building, 1240 26th Ave. Court SW, Cedar Rapids
- Dr. Percy and Lileah Harris Building, 1020 6th St. SE, Cedar Rapids
- Secondary Road Department, 1888 County Home Rd., Marion
- Wickiup Hill, 10260 Morris Hills Rd., Toddville
Appointments can be made online for the Treasurer’s Office. Appointments for all departments can be made by phone or email. Contact information for all Linn County departments is available at LinnCounty.org.
Some in-person court services have resumed at the Linn County Courthouse and Juvenile Justice Center (Juvenile Courthouse) with safety measures in place. However, anyone wanting an in-person meeting at the Linn County Attorney’s Office should call 319-892-6350 and schedule an appointment.
The Linn County Sheriff’s Office expects to reopen to the public within the next few weeks following completion of protective equipment installation in public service areas designed to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
Linn County is doing its part to keep our community and employees safe by following these protocols:
Requiring appointments in County facilities to limit the number of people in each building at one time
- Requiring all visitors to County buildings to wear face coverings and undergo a COVID-19 symptom screening. Linn County will make disposable face coverings available for the public at each County building.
- Placing security guards at the Public Service Center, Community Services Building, and Harris Building to oversee the appointment entrance process and perform COVID-19 screening of all building visitors
- Sanitizing high-touch areas throughout the day, such as handrails, elevator buttons, door handles, and counters
- Requiring all County employees to perform daily self-temperature and COVID-19 symptom checks before reporting to their work area
- Requiring all County employees to wear face coverings while working with the public, when in public areas of the building, and when six feet of distance cannot be maintained
- Installation of protective plexiglass shields at public service counters
- Signage reminding everyone to practice social distancing and other prevention measures to help stop the spread of the coronavirus
- Installation of vinyl floor decals to designate six-foot marks in waiting areas to promote social distancing
- Making hand sanitizer available in all County buildings
- Conducting meetings electronically when possible to reduce gatherings
“The health and safety of the public and our employees is our top priority. We are taking steps to do our part to help stop the spread of COVID-19 and reopen Linn County buildings to the public in a safe and thoughtful manner,” Linn County Board of Supervisor Chair Ben Rogers said. “We will continue to evaluate operations and stand ready to adjust services based on the most current data and recommendations from the Linn County Public Health Department and public health officials.”
