In August 2013, Linn County Supervisor Brent Oleson was appointed to the National Association of Counties (NACo) Environment, Energy & Land Use Steering Committee and the Green Government Initiative. The steering committee will focus on environmental matters pertaining to air, water, energy, and land use, including water resources/management, stormwater, pesticides, air quality standards, solid, hazardous, and nuclear waste handling, renewable/alternative energy, land use, and parks and recreation. Oleson will serve as vice chair of the solid waste subcommittee.
NACo’s Green Government Initiative provides comprehensive resources for local governments on all things green, including energy, air quality, transportation, water quality, land use, purchasing and recycling. The initiative serves as a catalyst between local governments and the private sector to facilitate green government best practices, products and policies that result in financial and environmental savings.
“Environmental issues are very important to me. I am honored to serve on these committees and to look for opportunities to improve our nation’s environment starting at the local level,” said Oleson.
Oleson is the only elected official from Iowa to serve on these national committees.
