Morgan Creek and Squaw Creek Parks

Linn County Conservation’s Morgan Creek and Squaw Creek Parks received heavy damage from the August 10 derecho and clean-up continues. Campgrounds have since reopened and are available for use.  However, the park day-use areas are closed, except for those who are attending a previously scheduled event at a reservable shelter or lodge.

The special deer hunt at Squaw Creek Park has been cancelled as the area has extensive damage and deemed not safe for access at this time.

Wickiup Hill Learning Center

The contractor hired by Linn County assisting us with storm debris will begin extensive work on Sunday, August 30 at Wickiup Hill.  (We apologize for the short notice as the playscape was open for a short time this week.)  This work will include removing hazard trees and debris in several areas, most of which are near outdoor trails commonly used by the public.

The indoor facility remains closed. We hope to be able to resume our reservation process (part of our COVID-19 protocol) soon.

Trails

Damage is widespread and sporadic along our trail system. Hazard tree and debris removal is continuing along the Cedar Valley Nature Trail, Grant Wood Trail, and Hoover Trail this week. Be advised that several crews and heavy equipment will be entering and exiting trails. Several sections will remain temporarily closed.   Most all trails are passable, but often times may be temporarily blocked.  Areas of the Hoover Trail remain closed until we are able to free up heavy equipment for use in this area.   Please be patient, we’ll get there!

Pinicon Ridge Park and Buffalo Creek Parks

These parks continue to operate as normal. For a complete list of Linn County Conservation parks, natural areas, and trails, visit parks at LinnCountyParks.com.

Phone Service

Phone service and network service is limited, but slowly getting restablized. Please be patient as we work through these issues. To reach Linn County Conservation, email  [email protected]
