[ARCHIVED] Planning Underway for Linn County’s FY22 Budget

Planning is underway for Linn County’s fiscal year 2022 budget. The budget will be developed over the next two and a half months during a series of more than 20 public meetings between the Linn County Board of Supervisors, other Linn County elected officials, and department heads. 

Each year, the budget is developed within Linn County’s budgetary and financial policies and in alignment with Linn County’s strategic plan. The Board of Supervisors strives to maintain a consistent levy rate to minimize any impact to the taxpayer while addressing budget priorities and maintaining essential public services.

Public Budget Forum

Linn County will hold its annual Public Budget Forum November 16 at 5 p.m. at the Linn County Public Service Center, 935 Second St. SW in Cedar Rapids. This is an opportunity for the public to address the Board of Supervisors and provide comment on the development of Linn County’s fiscal year 2022 budget.

Limited seating will be available at the meeting due to COVID-19 physical distancing guidelines. Face coverings are required for anyone attending in person. Residents are encouraged to participate in the meeting by phone. Instructions for joining the meeting by phone will be posted on the meeting agenda on the Linn County website 24 hours in advance of the meeting. A recording of the meeting will be posted on Linn County's website within 24 hours of the meeting’s conclusion.

The dates are subject to change so please check the Agendas & Minutes section on Linn County’s website 24 hours in advance for the most up-to-date information or subscribe to receive email and/or text notification of Board of Supervisors meetings and agendas.  

Fiscal year 2022 begins July 1, 2021 and ends June 30, 2022. 

Linn County has successfully maintained its Aaa bond rating (the highest rating possible) and has received the following awards from the Government Finance Officers Association for consistently meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting and reporting and being responsible stewards of public funds:

  • Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting – 31 consecutive years
  • Distinguished Budget Presentation Award - 24 consecutive years
  • Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting - 21 consecutive years.
