Due to the surge in positive COVID-19 cases and record hospitalizations across the country and locally, Linn County is closing buildings to the public once again to help reduce community spread of the virus to help ensure continuity of County services. The closure takes effect November 19, 2020 and remains in effect until public health conditions improve and allow for modifications. Linn County Conservation operational changes include:
Wickiup Hill Learning Center closure
- The Wickiup Hill Learning Center indoor facility is closed to the public until further notice.
- Programs scheduled for Wickiup Hill will continue, as these events have previously been scheduled outdoors and registrations have been limited in helping provide a safe environment. Some programs are still available at the Events page at LinnCountyParks.com. Linn County Conservation naturalists continue to schedule small group outdoor programs at 319-892-6485.
- To contact the Wickiup Hill Learning Center (Conservation Education) or Linn County Conservation headquarters:

Lodge closures
- Lodge rentals/reservations have been cancelled through December 31. These include Prairie Oak Lodge and Red Cedar Lodge at Wanatee Park, Horseshoe Falls Lodge and Woodpecker Lodge at Pinicon Ridge Park, as well as Red Oak Cabin at the Matsell Bridge Natural Area. Current customers are being contacted regarding this change.
- No new reservations will be accepted for these facilities for days through March 31, 2021.
- Existing reservations from January 1 through March 31 are currently being honored. However, mask requirements and gathering restrictions may be in place as well as other enhanced public health measures.
These current guidelines are subject to change. Linn County will continue to monitor the evolving COVID-19 situation and adjust operations and safety measures as needed.
Help Slow the Spread of COVID-19
Linn County officials urge all residents to help slow the spread of COVID-19 by wearing a face covering, maintaining a physical distance of 6 feet between themselves and others, staying home when ill, and washing hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Doing so will help to reduce the spread of the virus, protect our community, and help prevent overwhelming our healthcare system. Learn more at www.LinnCounty.org
