Protecting agricultural land has been a long-standing priority of the Linn County Planning and Development Department. In 2010 the county adopted a mechanism to allow an existing home to be divided from its “parent” parcel, while protecting the remaining agricultural or open space land from additional development. Since 2010, this Land Preservation Parcel Split process has been used throughout the county to successfully protect over 900 acres while allowing the owner the flexibility to sell or transfer ownership of the existing house. The following map depicts Land Preservation Parcel Splits throughout the county. Please contact us if you would like more information on this process.
