[ARCHIVED] Linn County Celebrates National County Government Month in April

The Linn County Board of Supervisors today issued a proclamation declaring April National County Government Month and will celebrate the month by showcasing county programs and services that help residents and its communities prosper.

“Linn County is proud of the programs and services provided to our residents,” said Linda Langston, chairperson of the Linn County Board of Supervisors and Past President of the National Association of Counties (NACo). “Our efforts combined with efforts of counties across the country help move America forward. I encourage all county residents to learn about the services Linn County provides and how those services benefit you and your loved ones.”

Programs Linn County is highlighting during National County Government Month include:

State of the County luncheon
Thursday, April 9 from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. at The Hotel at Kirkwood Center, 7725 Kirkwood Boulevard SW, Cedar Rapids. Linn County Supervisor Linda Langston will deliver the address to highlight Linn County’s accomplishments and challenges over the past year and discuss future county initiatives. This event is open to the public and hosted by the League of Women Voters. Tickets may be ordered by contacting the League of Women Voters at (319) 362-7783. Free seating is provided for individuals who want to attend only for the program.

The NACo Prescription - Health - Dental Discount Program
The program provides relief to uninsured and underinsured Americans who face high prescription, health and dental costs. The program, which is administered by CVS Caremark, includes discounts on prescriptions, vision care, LASIK & PRK vision procedures, hearing aids & screenings, prepaid lab work, prepaid diagnostic imaging, diabetic supplies and dental care. To receive savings on the health and dental services, a monthly membership is required.

The NACo Prescription Discount Card program is a free program that helps residents save money on their prescription medications any time their prescriptions are not covered by insurance. The free cards are available at Linn County offices or can be printed from NACo’s website and may be used at any participating retail pharmacy. The savings range from 15 to 75 percent with an average savings of 24 percent on thousands of medications. Cardholders may save on pet prescriptions also used to treat human conditions at participating pharmacies. Linn County residents have saved more than $611,000 since Linn County joined the program in 2006.

• Prescription Drug Discount Card: Free for Linn County residents
• Dental Discount Program: $6.95 month or $69 year for individuals. $8.95 month or $79 year for families
• Medical Services: $6.95 month or $69 year for individuals. $8.95 month or $79 year for families
