Linn County Supervisor Linda Langston presented the 10th annual State of the County address today at the Hotel at Kirkwood Center in Cedar Rapids during National County Government Month. The event was open to the public and hosted by the Linn County League of Women Voters.
Supervisor Langston’s speech highlighted Linn County’s accomplishments over the past year and future county initiatives by emphasizing the “Why Counties Matter” campaign from the National Association of Counties.
In her remarks, Langston noted, “Last year I had the privilege of serving as President of the National Association of Counties. In that role, I traveled across the country advocating for county issues on the local and national levels. It was a rare opportunity to see just how Linn County compares to other counties across the country. And what I found is that Linn County has quietly gone about being among one of the most creative and competitive counties in the nation – from our budgeting practices, to advancing at-risk preschool, to expanding recreation opportunities. With that perspective I can say with confidence, Linn County is leading the way. Through dedicated management and thoughtful decision-making, Linn County continues to be fiscally stable and strong.”
