Linn County is looking to fill a vacancy of an unexpired term on the Civil Service Commission for Deputy County Sheriffs. To comply with the state code requirement for gender balance, the vacancy should be filled by a woman. The term will expire June 30, 2025.
Iowa Code Chapter 341A directs the establishment of a Civil Service Commission for Deputy County Sheriffs. The commission’s primary responsibility is to participate in the employment interviews of deputy sheriff applicants. Commissions must be comprised of three members, and no more than two commissioners may be of the same political party. The Board of Supervisors appoints two members and the County Attorney appoints one member. Linn County’s current Civil Service Commission vacancy will be appointed by the Linn County Attorney. This is a voluntary appointment and commission members serve without compensation.
