[ARCHIVED] Temporary Redistricting Commission to Hold Public Hearing Feb. 8 on Supervisor District Maps

Temporary Redistricting Commission Public Hearing

The Linn County Temporary Redistricting Commission will hold a public hearing on a preliminary proposed Linn County supervisor district plan map on Feb. 8, 2022, at 4 p.m., at the Jean Oxley Linn County Public Service Center, 935 2nd St. SW, Cedar Rapids.

During the public hearing, members of the public can comment on the preliminary proposed Linn County supervisor redistricting plan map submitted by the Legislative Services Agency or present alternative plans of their own.

State law (Iowa Code 331.210A) requires the Legislative Services Agency to create and submit a proposed redistricting plan map for counties governed by supervisor districts plan three, which includes Linn County. Under plan three, Linn County has a three-member Board of Supervisors with election from single-member equal population districts, in which the electors of each district elect one member who must live in that district.

The following information is available to the public on the Linn County website or at the front counter of the Board of Supervisors office, Jean Oxley Linn County Public Service Center, 935 2nd St. SW, Cedar Rapids:

Redistricting is the process of redrawing boundaries for political districts in the United States and is required by state law to account for population changes following each federal decennial census to ensure equal representation.

For more information about the public hearing, contact Brent Oleson, deputy director of public policy & community relations at 319-892-5000.
