[ARCHIVED] Linn County COVID-19 Status Update

LINN COUNTY COVID-19 STATUS UPDATE

February 10, 2022

Recent Updates

  •  On January 31 the Moderna (Spikevax) COVID-19 vaccine became the second mRNA COVID-19 vaccine to receive full FDA approval. No change has been made to the vaccine’s formula with the name change. Once vaccines are approved by the FDA, companies can market the vaccines under brand names.
    1. On February 3 Governor Kim Reynolds signed the final extension of the state’s Public Health Disaster Emergency Proclamation, announcing it will expire at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, February 15, 2022. Coronavirus.iowa.gov and Vaccinateiowa.gov will be decommissioned on February 16. This will impact the data that IDPH will be publishing moving forward: LCPH will not be able to provide a 7-day test positivity rate as negative tests will no longer be reported by IDPH.
    2. Hospitals will no longer report daily hospital capacity information to IDPH and will transition to report directly to the Office of Health and Human Services. LCPH will continue to investigate the implications of this change in hospital reporting.
    3. LCPH will continue to share available data.
    4. LCPH will continue to be a pick-up and drop-off site for COVID-19 Test Iowa Kits.
  • On February 15, 2022, FDA Advisory Committee is scheduled to discuss authorization of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for children under 5. Pediatric Pfizer vaccinations for 6 months through age 4 cannot begin until after FDA EUA approval and the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommendations are signed by the CDC Director.
  • We have made significant progress over the past two years navigating the COVID-19 pandemic. We have learned a lot regarding SARS-CoV-2 and how it is transmitted. In addition, we now have effective therapeutics and vaccinations. As we continue to see new variants emerge, we expect to have periods of time when mitigation measures will be reduced and periods of time when mitigation measures will be enhanced accordingly
  • COVID-19 remains a public health threat. Linn County continues to be in an area of high transmission as defined by the CDC. To reduce community spread and to help keep your family safe, follow the recommended prevention measures in the section below.
