[ARCHIVED] Linn County awards $28,800 in historic preservation grants

The Linn County Board of Supervisors has awarded $28,800 from the Linn County Historic Preservation Grant Program to eight non-profit organizations in Linn County. The recipients were selected through an annual competitive process.

“A community’s history is a valuable asset and is important in creating a sense of place. We are proud to support the work of these organizations that are dedicated to preserving Linn County’s history for our enjoyment today and for future generations,” said Linda Langston, Chairperson of the Linn County Board of Supervisors.

The Linn County Historic Preservation Commission reviews the grant applications and makes funding recommendations to the Board of Supervisors. The Commission received more than $51,000 in requests and had $28,800 available for awards.

The following organizations will receive grant funding from the FY16 budget that begins July 1:

• Alburnett Community Historical Society: Rockford Building interior wall work $2,750
• Center Point Community Historical Society: Depot Museum room darkening window treatments $1,124
• Central City Historical Society: Brown Farmhouse roof repair $5,500
• Central City Historical Society: Clegg Library Museum tuckpointing $4,000
• Coggon Area Betterment Association: nomination of Coggon Center (old schoolhouse) to National Register of Historic Places $3,000
• Coggon Historical Society Clemons House: repair including shingles, door, siding $2,966
• Genealogical Society of Linn County: map and photo storage $3,360
• Marion Heritage Center & Museum: painting & preservation $3,600
• Ushers Ferry Historic Village: Blacksmith Shop roof $2,500
