[ARCHIVED] Linn County Board of Supervisors award $81,500 in Witwer Trust grants

The Linn County Board of Supervisors has awarded $81,500 in grants from the Linn County Board of Supervisors Witwer Trust Fund to 31 local non-profit organizations. The recipients were selected through an annual competitive grant process that began in November 2013. The Board of Supervisors received more than $128,000 in grant requests.

“There are many excellent non-profits in our community that provide important services and programs. Linn County is fortunate to have the Witwer Trust fund that allows us to award grants to help them carry out their missions,” said Linda Langston, Vice Chairperson of the Linn County Board of Supervisors.

The Witwer Trust was established by Weaver Witwer, a prominent Cedar Rapids grocer and landowner who died in 1979. Mr. Witwer owned and operated a food processing plant, a number of farms and what became known as the Me Too grocery stores.

The Witwer Trust grant cycle begins November 1 of each year. Competition is open to non-profit organizations in Linn County for projects that benefit Linn County residents. For more information about the Witwer Trust grant program, call (319) 892-5118 or email [email protected]
