In 2022, Linn County Planning & Development led programs that continued Linn County's focus on renewable energy, sustainable food systems, and safe building practices.
The department led the application process for the first three utility-scale solar projects in Linn County. This process allowed staff to see areas of the code in need of improvement, which led to a moratorium on utility-scale solar applications. During the moratorium, Renewable Energy Committees comprised of staff and members of the public are reviewing code sections and will present suggested changes to the Board of Supervisors.
The Linn County Food Systems Council developed the new Food, Access, Resiliency, and Equality (FARE) grant program to increase and improve access to local and healthy foods, promote equality in the local food system, and build more sustainable and resilient food operations. FARE grant awards from the first cycle will be posted on the Linn County website.
