[ARCHIVED] Deadline Approaching for Candidates to File for the Nov. 7 Election

Election News

The deadline for the candidate filing period for the Nov. 7, 2023, election is approaching. Candidates may file their papers no later than Thursday, Sept. 21 at 5 p.m.

The following contests currently do not have enough candidates to fill all elected official seats:

      • Alburnett City Council (2)
      • Bertram Mayor
      • Bertram City Council (3)
      • Center Point City Council (1)
      • Central City Council (1)
      • Coggon Mayor
      • Coggon City Council (2)
      • Coggon City Council To Fill Vacancy (1)
      • Fairfax Mayor
      • Lisbon Mayor
      • Marion Mayor
      • Mount Vernon City Council (1)
      • Palo City Council (2)
      • Prairieburg Mayor
      • Prairieburg City Council (2)
      • Springville City Council (3)
      • Walker Mayor
      • Walker City Council (3)
      • Walker City Council To Fill Vacancy (1)

How to File Candidate Papers

Candidates may file their papers no later than Thursday, Sept. 21 at 5 p.m. School board candidate paperwork must be filed with the appropriate school secretary. City candidate paperwork must be filed with the Linn County Auditor’s Office, located at 935 2nd St. SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  

Candidates must file both a petition https://sos.iowa.gov/elections/pdf/candidates/nompetnonpartisan.pdf and an Affidavit of Candidacy https://sos.iowa.gov/elections/pdf/candidates/affidavit.pdf.
