The East Central Iowa Council of Governments held a meeting on Thursday February 27 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. to gather information as part of an effort to develop a comprehensive, jurisdictional hazard mitigation plan for Linn County. The meeting was held at the Jean Oxley Public Service Center in lower level conference room 3A/3B. Additional meetings will be held on Wednesday March 26 and Wednesday April 23 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. in the same location. These meetings are open to the public. The hazard planning initiative, funded through a grant program from the Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management Division, seeks to create a unified hazard mitigation plan for all of the schools, municipalities, and unincorporated areas of Linn County. Currently, the county and municipalities have their own hazard mitigation plans. Updating and unifying the plans will enable organizations within the county to continue to be eligible to apply for funding through Homeland Security’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program.
A draft of the county plan should be ready in late spring and will be made available for public comment.
