After a conference call with the Secretary of State’s Office, Linn County joined numerous counties in Iowa in delaying the opening of polls for Tuesday’s Special School Elections. Due to a Winter Weather Advisory and projected hazardous driving conditions across the state, the Secretary of State has authorized that polling places and vote centers scheduled to begin at 7:00 AM may be delayed until 12:00 noon on Feb. 2.
Linn County is among the counties opting to delay the opening of all vote centers until 12:00 noon. The new voting hours for the College Community and Springville Community School Districts are 12:00 noon to 8:00 PM. The closing time of the vote centers did not change.
Absentee Voting – 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Election Day
Due to the change, the Linn County Auditor’s Office will be open at 7:00 AM on Tuesday, Feb. 2, for anyone from both school districts wishing to vote by absentee ballot. By law, when the polls open at noon, absentee voting is extended until 11:00 AM the day of the election.
