Supervisor Linda Langston today submitted her letter of resignation to Ben Rogers, Chair of the Linn County Board of Supervisors and Linn County Auditor Joel Miller. Her resignation will be effective April 15, 2016. She will begin a new position with the National Association of Counties in Washington, DC as the Director of Strategic Relationships on April 18, 2016. Questions regarding her new position should be directed to Brain Namey, Director of Public Affairs with the National Association of Counties. Earlier in the year, Langston had announced her intention to not seek re-election.
Linn County Auditor Joel Miller, Recorder Joan McCalmant and Treasurer Sharon Gonzalez will meet to determine how the vacancy will be filled. The Linn County Supervisor District 2 position is up for election in November 2016. The position can be filled by special election or by appointment.
Langston has served on the Linn County Board of Supervisors since January 2003. She has served as Chair of the Linn County Board in 2005, 2008, 2012, and 2015. While on the Board, she has served in a variety of positions related to her elected office, including Chair of the Chief Elected Officials of the Regional Workforce Development Board, Chair of the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), and Chair of the East Central Iowa Council of Governments. She has also served in other positions nationally, including the FEMA National Advisory Council, National Academy of Sciences – Resilient America Roundtable, and as president of the National Association of Counties 2013-2014.
Langston thanked the voters of Linn County and the Board of Supervisors for the opportunity to serve the citizens of Linn County. “It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve as an elected official in Linn County. I am grateful for the opportunity to have been of service to the community. As I leave service as an elected official in Linn County, I am happy that in my role at the National Association of Counties I will continue to be involved and of service to counties across America.”
