The Linn County Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications for the position of Reserve Deputy Sheriff. Applications can be obtained at our office or on our website at: www.linncounty.org/sheriff. Applications must be returned to our office on or before Wednesday, July 13th. Applicants will be required to perform standardized physical fitness test. This test is not pass/fail. It only serves as a measure of an applicant’s current fitness level. The physical fitness testing will be held at 9:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 16th at Michael J. Gould Recreation Center, 6301 Kirkwood Blvd. SW, Cedar Rapids.
Applicants will go through a lengthy training process which includes State of Iowa Certification as a Reserve Peace Officer. This training consists of State mandated module courses delivered over several weekends plus firearms, defensive tactics and other physical training.
Reserves are expected to work at least 8 hours per month, attend monthly meetings (Wednesday evenings), and assist with various public relations events.
Special Deputies may assist in the various divisions of the Linn County Sheriff’s Office. Special Deputies have all the powers and perform all the functions of a full-time Linn County Deputy Sheriff, but will always act under the direction of a full-time Deputy Sheriff.
