Join us Sunday, June 5, 2016 from 12:30 - 1:00 p.m. as we commemorate the return of the original school bell to the Abbe Creek School Museum along the historic Lincoln Highway.
The bell has been owned privately by the Jim and Mary Gunn family since the 1970s. Come celebrate with us as we welcome the bell back for a grand ringing and show off the recent repairs to the school. This is also the first day of our open houses for the summer which run from 1-5 p.m. every Sunday between Memorial Day and Labor Day at this one room school house, which was the first of its kind in Linn County.
The Abbe Creek School Museum is located on Mount Vernon Road northwest of Mount Vernon on a stretch of the historic Lincoln Highway. The 1850s one-room schoolhouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is the oldest surviving brick school building in Linn County. One of nine Lincoln Highway interpretive kiosks is located on the museum property and is accessible to visitors year round.
