[ARCHIVED] Absentee ballots available now for two upcoming special elections on Sept. 13

The Mount Vernon Community School District has requested a Special Election be held on September 13, 2016. The district is seeking approval to issue $15.9 million in general obligation bonds. The City of Central City has also requested a Special Election be held on September 13, 2016 to fill two vacancies on the city council.

Absentee ballots for these special elections are available now at Linn County Election Services in the Linn County Public Service Center, 935 2nd St. SW, Cedar Rapids.

Below are the three ways for voters of both jurisdictions to participate in this election.

Vote Absentee By Mail
o Request forms may be obtained from www.LinnCountyElections.org or by calling Election Services at 319-892-5300, ext. 1
? Request forms can be mailed to 935 2nd St. SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404-2100
o All requests must be received by Friday, September 9, 2016 at 5:00 PM.
o Ballots returned by mail must be postmarked by Monday, September 12, 2016.

Vote Absentee In-Person
o Office hours for absentee voting are Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (now until September 12) at the Linn County Election Services in the Linn County Public Service Center, 935 2nd St. SW, Cedar Rapids.

Vote at your vote center on Election Day - Tuesday, September 13, 2016
o The voting location for the Mount Vernon Community School District is Mount Vernon City Hall, 213 1st St. NW, Mount Vernon.
o The voting location for the City of Central City is the Falcon Civic Center, 137 4th St. N., Central City.
o Voting hours for both jurisdictions are from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

9/9/2016 Last Day to Request an Absentee Ballot to be Mailed

9/13/2016 Election Day
9/19/2016 Canvass of Votes (date is optional - either Monday or Tuesday after election)
