Posted on: September 22, 2016

[ARCHIVED] Linn County flood preparations underway

In preparation of the expected crest of the Cedar River on Monday and Waspipinicon River on Tuesday (based on current models), Linn County is taking steps to be prepared.

The Board of Supervisors will hold a special meeting tomorrow, Sept. 23 at noon in the Linn County Public Service Center to designate Linn County Risk Manager Steve Estenson, as Incident Commander for Linn County for Cedar/Wapsi flood event. This will allow the Risk Manager to act on behalf of the county and coordinate department response needs.

During the meeting, the Board of Supervisors is also expected to approve Linn County’s emergency procurement authority pursuant to Section XVI of Linn County Policy OP-002, Purchasing Policy. This will give designated county officials authority to conduct purchases necessary for response related to the September 2016 flooding event within policy limits.

County departments are also taking steps to protect county resources and assets, such as stored items and moving fleet vehicles.

Linn County officials will continue to monitor river levels and respond as the need arises.
