In preparation of the expected crest of the Cedar River at 25.3 feet on Monday, Linn County announces the closure of the following county buildings to the public effective Monday, Sept. 26 until further notice:
• Linn County Courthouse on May’s Island
• Linn County Juvenile Courthouse, 211 8th Ave. SW
• Jean Oxley Linn County Public Service Center, 935 2nd St. SW
The Linn County Sheriff’s Office has previously announced the closure and evacuation of the Linn County Sheriff’s Office and the Correctional Center.
These measures are being taken to ensure the safety of the public and employees as roads accessing these buildings may be closed. Hesco Barriers are being installed around the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, Correctional Center and Linn County Courthouse.
We understand there are still residents who need to pay their property taxes by the Sept. 30 deadline. With the closure of the Treasurer’s Office on Monday, residents are encouraged to pay their property taxes online at www.iowataxandtags.gov or to mail them with a U.S. Postal Service postmark by Sept. 30.
The Auditor’s Office will set up a satellite office in the Linn County Community Services Building at 1240 26th Ave. SW in Cedar Rapids.
The Board of Supervisors will hold meetings on Saturday, Sept. 24 and Sunday, Sept. 25 at noon in the Linn County Public Service Center to discuss flood related issues and the County’s response.
Linn County will have sandbagging material available free of charge to Linn County residents by 6 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Linn County Engineers Office, 1888 County Home Road, Marion. Residents are asked to bring their own shovels. Residents who need volunteer assistance with sandbagging efforts are asked to call United Way’s 2-1-1 or 319-739-4211.
Residents are reminded do not drive through flooded roadways and do not drive past barricades that are placed on roads. Barricades are placed to help ensure the safety of the public.
