[ARCHIVED] Linn County Prescription Discount Card can help residents save money

As part of National County Government Month, Linn County officials are drawing attention to the National Association of Counties (NACo) Prescription Discount Card Program that is available to Linn County residents at no cost. The card will give discounts on prescriptions for residents who are uninsured, underinsured, seniors and pet owners in Linn County.

“Linn County launched the program in 2006 to help residents cope with the high price of prescriptions that are not covered by insurance,” said Lu Barron, chair of the Linn County Board of Supervisors.

The cards are available in county offices or online for easy access for all Linn County residents. Residents can print a card at their convenience, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. There is no enrollment, and savings are available immediately at any participating pharmacy on prescriptions that are not covered by insurance. The cards can even be used for pet medications purchased at participating pharmacies. The average savings is 23 percent.

Since launching the program eight years ago, Linn County residents using the discount card have saved more than $580,000 on prescription medications.

This program is offered at no cost to Linn County taxpayers and is a benefit of Linn County’s membership in NACo. This program is administered by CVS Caremark.
