FY16 Linn County Public Health Report Highlights Partnerships in the Community

Cedar Rapids, IA – At a joint meeting this week, the Linn County Board of Health and the Linn County Board of Supervisors released the Linn County Public Health (LCPH) FY16 Annual Report.

“During the last year, LCPH moved forward to create unprecedented partnerships with local organizations, implemented many successful activities and public health programs, and provided leadership and support to promote healthy living in Linn County,” said Pramod Dwivedi, Director of Linn County Public Health. Highlights from the FY16 Annual Report include:
• The Together! Healthy Linn Steering Committee approved the 2016-2018 Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) to address community needs (February 2016). The CHIP is the result of collaboration between social and health services agencies in Linn County and focuses on the social determinants of health, health behaviors, and health promotion.
• LCPH was awarded State Innovation Model (SIM) funding from the Iowa Department of Health to work with community partners to conduct comprehensive assessments to identify populations at risk of or engaged in tobacco use, or those at a higher risk for developing obesity or diabetes.
• LCPH partnered with several local medical providers on a project to increase radon awareness and testing. Of 506 radon test kits analyzed, 38% had higher than 4.0 pCi/L benchmark set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for action or intervention.
