Beginning May 1, 2014, the one-way fare for Linn County LIFTS will increase to $3 from the current $2.50 fare. This is the first fare increase in four years and is a result of the program’s increased expenses, including rising fuel costs.
The fare is a small portion of the actual cost of the service. LIFTS also receives funding from Linn County, the Iowa Department of Transportation, and a contract for ridership from the City of Cedar Rapids.
Last year, LIFTS buses traveled more than 320,000 miles providing transportation for approximately 80,000 Linn County seniors and persons with disabilities.
