Linn County has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for the 21st consecutive year. The award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting and reflects the commitment of the Linn County governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting.
A Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation has been presented to Dawn Jindrich, Linn County budget director, for her significant role in achieving the award.
To receive the award, Linn County had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines assess how well a government’s budget serves as:
- a policy document
- a financial plan
- an operations guide, and
- a communications device
Documents submitted to the budget awards program are reviewed by members of the GFOA professional staff and by outside reviewers with experience in public-sector budgeting. A budget document must be rated “proficient” in all four categories to receive the award.
Linn County’s budget document received outstanding ratings overall as a financial plan and as an operations guide.
According to the GFOA, award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America.
