[ARCHIVED] Mount Vernon Road SE Construction to Begin May 30

A paving project on Mount Vernon Road SE from just east of East Post Road to Vernon Valley Drive is scheduled to begin Tuesday, May 30. The project is expected to take five months for completion. The majority of the project will be constructed under traffic, but portions of the roadway may be closed at times and delays are to be expected.

The project is under contract with L.L. Pelling Company of North Liberty, Iowa for a cost of $4,423,753.78. The general scope of the joint Linn County and City of Cedar Rapids project includes constructing a 3-lane (middle turn lane) roadway with paved shoulders throughout the project limits. Other work includes grading, storm sewer/intakes, culvert extensions and replacements, and utility relocations. The contractor anticipates a completion date of mid-October for the project.
