[ARCHIVED] Linn County Conservation Board to hold Open House/Listening Post on future of Pinicon Ridge Park Dam

Pinicon Ridge Park Dam

LINN COUNTY, IA –July 11, 2017-  The Linn County Conservation Board is requesting public input regarding the Pinicon Ridge Park Dam, located on the Wapsipinicon River just east of Highway 13 in Central City.   The Conservation Board is considering long-term options for the dam, as it turns fifty years old this year.  “We want to hear people’s thoughts, views, and ideas,” said Hillary Hughes, President of the Linn County Conservation Board.

Projects to modify low-head dams have been taking place throughout Iowa in recent years to eliminate safety hazards, improve the water quality of streams and rivers, improve aquatic life, and/or provide recreational opportunities.    Hughes points out that the Conservation Board is only assessing the dam’s future at this time and has no specific plan or project in mind, outside of ensuring the safety and soundness of the structure.  “This is a process that may require several years of study, planning and partnership.  The Open House/Listening Post on July 26 is a starting point.  We want to hear ideas about the dam and the river.”

The Open House/Listening Post will be held at the Falcon Civic Center, 137 Fourth St. N in Central City from 5:30-7p.m.  Information about the dam and Pinicon Ridge Park will be provided together with Conservation Board staff being present to answer questions.   There will be no formal presentation.  Those attending will be able to provide written comments.
