The Linn County Board of Supervisors is accepting applications to fill two voluntary appointments on its Historic Preservation Commission.
The Historic Preservation Commission’s primary function is to help identify, preserve and protect historic structures and/or archaeological sites within the Commission’s jurisdiction. The jurisdiction includes unincorporated Linn County and cities within Linn County with the exceptions of Cedar Rapids, Marion, Mount Vernon, Lisbon and Ely; these cities have their own Historic Preservation Commissions. The Linn County Historic Preservation Commission also reviews grant applications for Linn County’s annual historic preservation grant program and makes recommendations to the Board of Supervisors for grant funding. The Commission typically meets once a month.
Ideal candidates for appointment include:
- Historian who specializes in Iowa, local or public history
- Architectural historian who specializes in American architecture
- Archaeologist (North American prehistory or history)
- Preservation architect
- Attorney specializing in preservation law
- Planner with extensive preservation experience
- Owners of rehabilitated, National Register listed properties
- Developer who works exclusively with historic properties
Applicants must be residents of Linn County and may submit an online application through the Linn County website or may pick up an application at the Linn County Public Service Center, 935 Second St. SW in Cedar Rapids from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
