[ARCHIVED] Linn County Public Health Receives Funds to Support Emerging Public Health Issues, Opioid Abuse

Cedar Rapids Healthcare Alliance committed $40,000 to Linn County Public Health.

During its annual Board meeting, the Cedar Rapids Healthcare Alliance committed $40,000 to Linn County Public Health in support of its work associated with emerging public health issues, such as opioid abuse.

“We are deeply grateful for this generous support, which will allow Linn County Public Health and our community partners to continue to work together toward a healthy Linn County,” said Linn County Public Health Director, Pramod Dwivedi. “One serious public health issue, which has emerged in our community in recent years is opioid abuse. There were more than two dozen deaths and hundreds of emergency room visits in Linn County last year associated with opioid misuse. This money will allow us to receive additional training and resources to combat the opioid epidemic and other emerging health issues in Linn County.”

“For months, the Linn County Board of Health has been discussing how much opioids have impacted our community and how to address it,” said Dr. James Levett, a member of Linn County Board of Health and president of the Cedar Rapids Healthcare Alliance. “This funding comes at an important time as we work to address the scourge of opioids and other public health issues in Linn County.”
