[ARCHIVED] Linn County Issues FY17 Annual Report

Report cover for Linn County FY17 annual report

Linn County has released its fiscal year 2017 Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR). The report provides residents with an overview of how their tax dollars are managed and spent and is part of Linn County’s ongoing commitment to keep residents informed about the County’s finances and to be accountable for the receipt and expenditure of public funds.

In addition to providing easy to understand financial information, the report highlights some of Linn County’s accomplishments and major initiatives of the past year and demonstrates the vital role of county government within the community.

Accomplishments include:

  • Linn County received a SolSmart Silver Award in 2017 for its significant action to promote a robust local solar market.
  • Linn County is part of the community partnership to improve walkability in areas of high need throughout the county.
  • Linn County partnered with the Monarch Research Project to plant over 140 acres of pollinator habitat. Native plantings also provide erosion control, reduce storm water runoff, and reduce snow drifting on county roads.
  • Linn County named its future Linn County Public Health and Child & Youth Development Services Building posthumously in honor of Dr. Percy and Lileah Harris.
  • Linn County successfully met—a year and a half ahead of schedule—a new federal requirement that all Medicaid funded programs that provide day habilitation for people with disabilities must do so in integrated settings.
  • Linn County maintained its Aaa bond rating, which meets the County’s strategic goal of maintaining strong financial management.

This information and more is available in the report at

Printed copies of the report were included in the Dec. 18 edition of The Gazette. Copies will also be distributed in the Linn News-Letter on Dec. 19, the Marion Times on Dec. 21 and the Mount Vernon-Lisbon Sun on Dec. 21. Additional printed copies are available at the Linn County Public Service Center, 935 Second St. SW, Cedar Rapids.

Linn County has earned the award for “Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting” from the Government Finance Officers Association for 19 consecutive years. To receive this award, Linn County’s report has to meet high standards in creativity, understandability, distribution and reader appeal.
