The Linn County Secondary Road department has been working to assess the damage to secondary roads in Linn County, to clear debris and make roads safe for travel since the first storm came through Linn County June 29. The department’s unofficial estimate, because it is still assessing various locations, is there are 800 – 1,000 locations throughout Linn County that still require work to return the roads to their pre-storm condition.
Wright Brothers Blvd Construction Update
A paving project on Wright Brothers Blvd. will continue as scheduled with paving expected to start early next week July 7-9. Wright Brothers Blvd is not a detour route for Highway 151. A hard surface detour for the Wright Brothers Blvd. project will be in place to direct traffic.
The Board of Supervisors met today to determine if the Wright Brothers Blvd. construction project could be delayed due to the Highway 151 bridge being closed in Fairfax as a result of this week’s storm. However, Linn County would have to pay a significant cost to delay the project and the contractor would not be able to reschedule until this fall after school is in session.
“There’s no real win with this situation, but we really don’t want this project to go into the school year because that just compounds the traffic problems,” said Lu Barron, chairwoman of the Linn County Board of Supervisors.
“It’s our understanding after talking with the DOT that they have an aggressive schedule in place to repair the Highway 151 bridge in Fairfax,” said Linn County Supervisor Linda Langston.
