Early, absentee voting begins Thursday, March 15 in Linn County for the City of Alburnett, the Alburnett Community School District, and the Mount Vernon Community School District Special Elections. The special elections will be held for:
- City of Alburnett: To fill council member vacancy
- Alburnett Community School District: Public Measure - Physical Plant and Equipment Levy
- Mount Vernon Community School District: Public Measure - General Obligation Bonds
Beginning Thursday, March 15, individuals residing in the City of Alburnett, the Alburnett Community School District, and the Mount Vernon Community School District may vote in-person at the Election Services Department of the Linn County Auditor’s Office. The office is located in the Linn County Public Service Center, 935 2nd St. SW in Cedar Rapids. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. In-person absentee voting continues through Monday, April 2.
Voting by Mail:
Voters may also request to have an absentee ballot mailed to them. The last day voters can send ballots by mail is Friday, March 23, 2018. NOTE: This is one week earlier than in past years.
Absentee voters may return their ballot by mail or hand-deliver their ballot to the Election Services Department. Ballots returned by mail must be postmarked on or before Monday, April 2 in order to be counted.
Election Day is Tuesday, April 3. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Satellite Voting Stations:
Mount Vernon Community School District will hold a satellite, or in-person absentee voting site, on Thursday, March 22 from 2 to 8 p.m. at Mount Vernon High School located at 731 Palisades Rd SW, Mount Vernon, Iowa.
Alburnett Community School District will host a satellite on Tuesday, March 27 from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Alburnett Community School located at 131 Roosevelt St, Alburnett, Iowa.
