Updated Utility-Scale Solar Ordinance Passes second ReadingThe Board of Supervisors unanimously passed the second of three readings of proposed updates to Linn County’s utility-scale solar ordinance. The proposed ordinance changes include input from Renewable Energy Review Committees, the Board of Supervisors, and the public and were recommended for approval by the Planning & Zoning Commission. The Supervisors also discussed a draft scorecard that would be used to review utility-scale solar applications. The final reading is scheduled for Sept. 20. Candidate Filing Deadline for Nov. 7 ElectionThe deadline for candidates to add their names to the Nov. 7, 2023, election ballot is Thursday, Sept. 21 at 5 p.m. Some contests in Linn County do not have enough candidates to fill all elected official seats. Visit Linn County’s website for information on what seats are available for election and how to file candidacy paperwork.

National Policewoman DaySept. 12 was National Policewoman Day, and Linn County recognizes our very own female deputies and thanks them for their dedication to serving and protecting the residents of Linn County. We are grateful for all women in law enforcement across our nation.

Board of supervisors meeting recapThe following is a recap from the Linn County Board of Supervisors meetings the week of Sept. 8-15, 2023. The Board of Supervisors: - Met with and received updates from the following departments: LIFTS, Policy & Administration, and Secondary Roads
- Discussed and approved Linn County departments’ requests for American Rescue Plan Act funds
- Proclaimed September 16, 2023, Latino Festival Day in Linn County
- Held the second consideration on an ordinance amending the Code of Ordinances, Linn County, Iowa, by amending provisions in Chapter 107, Unified Development Code, relating to Renewable Energy, Utility-Scale Solar, and Battery Energy Storage Systems
- Discussed a draft resolution to adopt utility-scale solar scorecard
- Received and placed on file Sheriff's Quarterly Report for April 1, 2023, to June 30, 2023, for the amount of $1,298,751
- Approved a resolution for a land preservation parcel split for Roseberry First Addition
- Rescinded the resolution dated Nov. 5, 1974, establishing a stop sign for the northbound traffic at the T-intersection of Seminole Valley Road NE and 42nd Street, in section 12-83-8.
- Approved a resolution establishing a No Parking Zone on a portion of the east side of Seminole Valley Road NE from the railroad crossing south 1,635 feet to the end of County right-of-way jurisdiction
- Authorized Chair to sign a Linn County Children’s Mental Health Assistance Program fiscal year 2024 Provider Agreement between Linn County and Unity Point St. Lukes Hospital effective Aug. 1, 2023, through June 30, 2024
- Authorized Chair to sign a Linn County Children’s Mental Health Assistance Program fiscal year 2024 Provider Agreement between Linn County and Heart and Solutions LLC effective Aug. 1, 2023, through June 30, 2024
- Authorized Chair to sign 5884HC08 Amend 2 LCCS, between Linn County Community Services - Ryan White Program and Iowa Department of Public Health for an additional $72 effective April 1, 2023, through March 31, 2024, for a total amended contract equaling $958,982
- Authorized Chair to sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the provision of certain fiscal agent services for Wrap Around and Staff Development Funds between Juvenile Court Services, 6th District and Linn County Community Services effective Oct. 1, 2023, through Sept. 30, 2024.
- Authorized Chair to sign a service agreement for scheduling software between Linn County LIFTS and TripMaster by CTS Software effective September 2023 through September 2028 for the total amount of $153,950
- Approved Public Health fiscal year 2023 carryover request in the amount of $192,177
- Approved a $50,000 carryover from the fiscal year 2023 budget for Main Street funding and an allocation of $16,666 each to the Czech Village, Marion, and Mount Vernon/Lisbon Main Street programs
- Awarded bid and approved purchase order for sediment logs and wooden stakes to the Coleman Moore Company in the amount of $5,362 for the Secondary Road Department
- Approved purchase order for $51,960 to Copy Systems Inc. for two high-speed envelope openers for Elections Services
- Approved a Class C retail alcohol license for the Lighthouse Inn, 6905 Mt. Vernon Road SE noting all conditions have been met
- Approved a Class C retail alcohol license for BK's Bar, 803 Vernon Valley Dr. SE noting all conditions have been met
