Linn County Public Health Releases Phased Reopening Guidance During Community Spread of COVID-19

Linn County Public Health recommends a phased reopening, in alignment with the Centers for Disease Control and other national organizations. This three-phased approach enables businesses to reopen, and events and gatherings to occur, while protecting the health and safety of employees, patrons, guests, and the general public.

Linn County Public Health encourages businesses and employers, event organizers, and the general public to view additional general guidance, guidance on events and mass gatherings, and business specific guidance on reopening on their website.

Social Distancing Is Important Outdoors, Too

As the weather becomes nicer and Iowans begin spending more time outside, Linn County Public Health wants to remind residents it is important to follow social distancing guidelines outdoors as well to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

When spending time outdoors, all people should:

Maintain social distancing by keeping a distance of at least 6-feet between yourself and anyone you encounter outdoors. Have a cloth face covering on hand for when social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.
Spend time outdoors alone, or in small groups. This is not the time for team sports or recreation.
Avoid popular parks and trails that are frequently crowded.
Avoid touching surfaces like crosswalk buttons, park benches, etc. Carry hand sanitizer with you so you can clean your hands while outside, and be sure to wash your hands as soon as you return home.

Linn County Extends Closure of Most County Facilities Through June 15

To continue to protect the health and safety of Linn County employees and the public, Linn County is extending the closure of most County facilities to the general public through June 15, 2020. This date may be modified as needed.

Linn County Conservation COVID-19 Update

Linn County Conservation is announcing further changes to its operations in response to the current COVID-19 situation. Campgrounds at Buffalo Creek Park, Morgan Creek Park, Pinicon Ridge Park and Squaw Creek Park are open with additional sanitation and safety protocols as more facilities become accessible to the public. Non-modern (primitive) campgrounds at Matsell Bridge Natural Area and Wakipicada Natural Area are also open.

June 2 Is Primary Election Day

Primary elections will be held June 2, 2020 for the Democrat, Libertarian, and Republican parties. In the state of Iowa, Primary elections are considered a semi-closed primary. This means eligible voters may vote in a party's primary only if they are registered as members of the party. However, voters are able to change their party affiliation when they vote absentee or on election day.

Due to COVID-19, election day polling locations will be reduced to 19 sites. You can find your polling location by entering your address at www.linncountyelections.org/lookup. Poll locations will be open from 7 a.m.-9 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2.

In-person, absentee voting is also available at a drive-through location at 823 3^rd St. SW in Cedar Rapids near the Linn County Public Service Center. Voters will be processed curbside. This early voting option is available 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday until June 1 and on Saturday, May 30.
