COVID-19 Vaccine Administration Moving Toward Phase 1B While Linn County is finishing Phase 1A vaccine administration, Linn County Public Health is working with local partners to finalize plans to begin Phase 1B vaccinations no later than February 1. In Linn County, individuals 65 years and older are eligible for vaccine beginning January 26, and may receive vaccine at any time during Phase 1B, and in future phases of vaccine rollout.
However, vaccine remains in short supply. This means not everyone 65 and older or in Phase 1B will be able to get vaccine right away. To help balance vaccine supply with the Phase 1B demands, the Iowa Department of Public Health has implemented a tiered prioritization as seen in the graphic below. Additional details on how county residents eligible for vaccine can get vaccinated will be shared as soon as it is available.

Linn County Conservation Conducting Salvage Log Harvest In response to the derecho that devastated much of Linn County this past August, the Conservation Department is continuing its efforts to remove the devastation to its areas, while taking steps to replenish the woodlands. The derecho is one of the most expensive storms in history for this area. The financial impacts are not only for removal of storm debris, but to rebuild what was lost in our park areas.
Restoration efforts this winter will include salvage harvests in the most impacted areas: approximately 283 acres in the southern portion of Wanatee Park, and 17 acres just north of the Wickiup Hill Learning Center.

Actions to Prevent the Spread of COVID-19 Remain Important Even as vaccine becomes available to additional populations, it is important to continue practicing COVID-19 mitigation strategies to prevent to spread of the virus.
Due to the improving burden of COVID-19 in our community, Linn County Public Health recommends moving to Tier 2 of the “Actions to Combat Increase in COVID-19.” These recommendations include
- In general, limit interaction with non-household members, and limit out of state travel
- For gatherings and social events, limit indoor and outdoor gatherings to 25 or less, or 25% of room capacity, whichever is fewer
- For bars and restaurants, limiting seating capacity to 50%
- Do not allow seating/congregating or ordering at the bar, and to not seat multiple parties together.
- For businesses, promote telework for as many workers as possible
- For retail businesses, limit groups to household members only, and provide personal services by appointment only.
In addition to these actions, residents should continue to practice the three W's of wearing a face covering (even after being vaccinated), waiting 6 feet or more from others, and washing hands frequently. See the full list of recommendations from Linn County Public Health.
