Mental Health Access Center to Start Walk-in Service Linn County is pleased to announce the Mental Health Access Center will begin offering daytime walk-in hours on Monday, April 26. Individuals 18 years of age and older who are experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis will be able to walk into the Access Center without an appointment and receive help Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. The Access Center is building capacity and working to open on a walk-in basis 24/7 365 days a year.
The Access Center is located in the former Linn County Public Health building at 501 13th St. NW in Cedar Rapids. For services after hours, community members can contact Foundation 2 Mobile Crisis Teams by calling 319-362-2174.

Supervisor Walker to Deliver Virtual State of the County Address Linn County Supervisor Chair Stacey Walker will present Linn County’s virtual State of the County address on Thursday, April 29 at 11:30 a.m. followed by a live Q&A session moderated by League of Women Voters Linn County. His presentation will focus on resiliency by looking back at the enormous challenges of 2020 while looking ahead to the future and the opportunities it presents. The event will be accessible on Zoom and streamed on Linn County’s Facebook page. A link to the recording will be posted on Linn County’s website after the event. The virtual State of the County is sponsored by League of Women Voters Linn County, in cooperation with Linn County, and supported by local businesses.

City of Cedar Rapids and Linn County Partner on Community Resilience Project The City of Cedar Rapids and Linn County are collaborating with surrounding communities and numerous service providers in a countywide Community Resilience Project. The project will serve to build on expertise and success in times of disaster, as well as integrate new learning through establishment of an annual cross-sector process that includes anticipatory planning and exercises. The project includes consultation with subject matter experts, citizen engagement, and the creation of exercises that can be updated annually to capture new risk forecasts and changes in the operating environment.

April 24 is National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day On Saturday, April 24, bring your expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs to the Linn County Sheriff's Office between 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. as part of a nationwide prescription drug “Take-Back” initiative with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The Linn County Sheriff’s Office is collaborating with the DEA in this initiative that seeks to prevent increased pill abuse and theft. All prescription drugs dropped off at this event will be destroyed. This free, anonymous service will help keep your home safe and could even save lives. Learn more about this event.

Linn County Seeks Historic Preservation Commission Member Linn County is accepting applications to fill a voluntary appointment on the Historic Preservation Commission. Members of the Commission provide for the recognition and promotion of historic sites and historic preservation; possess interest or expertise in architecture, architectural history, historic preservation, planning, building rehabilitation, conservation in general, or real estate; and promote and conduct an educational and interpretive program on historic properties within its jurisdiction. Applicants must be residents of Linn County. Linn County is committed to gender balance on all boards, commissions, and advisory committees. ATV Ordinance Reminders in Rural Linn County In 2020, the Linn County Board of Supervisors approved an ordinance allowing the use of all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and off-road vehicles on certain county roads in unincorporated Linn County. The approval followed multiple public input sessions. With the arrival of spring and warmer weather, Linn County reminds the public of some of the main provisions within the ordinance, including:
- Operators of ATVs or off-road utility vehicles must have a valid driver’s license and be at least 16 years of age.
- An operator 18 years of age and under is required to take and pass an Iowa Department of Natural Resources approved ATV education course and must carry a valid safety certificate while operating the vehicle.
- Operators and passengers 18 years of age and under must wear an ATV safety helmet.
- Operators of ATVs or off-road utility vehicles cannot travel at a rate of speed greater than thirty-five (35) miles per hour.
- ATV or off-road utility vehicle operation may begin at sunrise and must cease at sunset.
